On Wednesday, 12 January 2022, in the afternoon at 12:50, in Kaunas, on Alaušo street, at the junction with Sartų street, a Vauxhall Zafira registered in Great Britain hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 81-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 40-year-old driver of the Vauxhall, who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
