On Friday, 22 April 2022, in the morning at 10:54, in Joniškio district municipality, Gataučių village, on the Ryga–Šiauliai–Tauragė–Kaliningradas main road (kilometre 25), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a BMW 318d and a Volkswagen Passat. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 29-year-old driver of the BMW (11 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (2.16‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
