On Saturday, 20 August 2022, in the evening at 19:42, in Šilutės district municipality, on the Kvėdarna–Švėkšna–Saugos national road (kilometre 26.50), a car hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 72-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 32-year-old driver of a car (3 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
