On Monday, 28 November 2022, in the evening at 18:33, in Plungės district municipality, on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė national road (kilometre 60.05), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Ford Mondeo and a Nissan X-Trail. Two people were injured — a 73-year-old passenger of the Nissan (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt) and the 72-year-old driver of the Nissan (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Ford, who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He had no driving licence. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
