On Friday, 10 March 2023, in the afternoon at 16:55, in Varėnos district municipality, on J. Basanavičiaus street, at the junction with M. K. Čiurlionio street, a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved an Opel, a Skoda Octavia and an Audi A4. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 34-year-old driver of the Opel, who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. He was drunk (2.17‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
