On Thursday, 13 July 2023, at night at 3:40, in Lazdijų district municipality, Saltoniškės village, on the Druskininkėliai–Varnėnai–Beržiniai regional road (kilometre 0.95), a Volkswagen Passat hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 30-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by the 44-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (7 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations.
