On Friday, 22 September 2023, at night at 0:35, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Jablonavas–Puvočiai–Marcinkonys regional road (kilometre 15), a BMW 520D ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the BMW (6 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.44‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
