On Tuesday, 17 October 2023, in the evening at 22:30, in Šilalės district municipality, Pajūrio town, on Dariaus ir Girėno street near No. 53, a BMW hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people were injured — a 19-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient) and an 35-year-old other (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 25-year-old driver of the BMW (3 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
