On Monday, 1 January 2024, at night at 3:46, in Kupiškio district municipality, on Gedimino street, at the junction with Aukštaičių street, a Volvo S80 ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Volvo, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.31‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA).
