On Monday, 1 January 2024, at night at 3:46, in Kupiškio district municipality, on Gedimino street, at the junction with Aukštaičių street, a Volvo S80 ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Volvo, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.31‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
