Unlicensed Opel driver in crash with Volkswagen in Alovės village
On Tuesday, 2 January 2024, at night at around 23:00, in Alytaus district municipality, Alovės village, on Alovėlės street, at the junction with Parko street, a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Opel Astra-G-Caravan and a Volkswagen Passat. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 18-year-old driver of the Opel (less than a year of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
