On Sunday, 21 January 2024, in the evening at 18:20, in Šiaulių district municipality, Steponiškės village, on the Šiauliai–Palanga main road (kilometre 31), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Seat Ibiza and an Audi A5. Three people were injured — the 22-year-old driver of the Seat (hospitalized), the 53-year-old driver of the Audi (hospitalized) and a 51-year-old passenger of the Audi (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the Seat (1 year of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was twilight, there was a blizzard, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
