On Friday, 16 February 2024, at night at around 2:00, in Prienų district municipality, on the Kaunas–Prienai–Alytus national road (kilometre 45.92), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Audi A3, a truck and a trailer/semi-trailer 0.75–3.5 t. Two people were injured — the 27-year-old driver of the Audi (hospitalized) and the 40-year-old driver of a truck (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 27-year-old driver of the Audi (10 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
