On Friday, 12 April 2024, in the evening at 21:20, in Panevėžio district municipality, on the Panevėžys–Pasvalys–Ryga main road (kilometre 16), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Renault Magnum 390 registered in Ukraine, a Scania R 480 registered in Latvia, a Schmitz SCS 24/L registered in Ukraine and a Schmitz SKO 24 registered in Latvia. One person died — the 28-year-old driver of the Renault. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Renault (10 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
