On Wednesday, 1 May 2024, at night at 23:55, in Šiaulių district municipality, Piktuižių village, on Aušros street, a BMW 525I registered in Germany hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 56-year-old driver of the BMW, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.11‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
