On Sunday, 26 May 2024, at night at around 0:00, in Zarasų district municipality, on J.Gruodžio street, at a yard or parking-lot exit, a collision with a stationary vehicle occurred. The collision involved an Opel Antara registered in Latvia and a BMW X1 Xdrive 20D. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 57-year-old driver of the Opel (30 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (2.41‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
