On Wednesday, 7 August 2024, in the evening at 21:45, in Kalvarijos municipality, on the Kalvarija–Gražiškiai–Vištytis national road (kilometre 2), a Peugeot 607 registered in France hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Peugeot, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.50‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was twilight, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
