On Wednesday, 14 August 2024, in the afternoon at around 13:00, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Šiauliai–Gruzdžiai–Naujoji Akmenė national road (kilometre 5), a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, a Volvo V60 and a BMW 320D. One person was injured — a 50-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 29-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (8 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
