On Wednesday, 9 October 2024, in the evening at 18:20, in Šiaulių district municipality, on Vilniaus street near No. 2, an Opel Corsa hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 83-year-old driver of the Opel (29 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (0.89‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was raining, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
