On Wednesday, 25 December 2024, in the evening at 19:23, in Zarasų district municipality, on the Zarasai–Bradesiai–Obeliai national road (kilometre 13), a BMW Serie 5 hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 36-year-old driver of the BMW (10 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.95‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
