On Saturday, 25 January 2025, in the afternoon at 13:20, in Zarasų district municipality, Suvėnų village, on Liepų street, a GAZ 66 rolled over. One person died — a 70-year-old passenger of the GAZ. Eight people were injured — the 56-year-old driver of the GAZ (hospitalized), a 61-year-old passenger of the GAZ (hospitalized), a 48-year-old passenger of the GAZ (treated as an outpatient), a 47-year-old passenger of the GAZ (treated as an outpatient), a 43-year-old passenger of the GAZ (treated as an outpatient), a 28-year-old passenger of the GAZ (severely injured, hospitalized), a 67-year-old passenger of the GAZ (hospitalized) and a 65-year-old passenger of the GAZ (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 56-year-old driver of the GAZ (39 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
