The accident was caused by the 63-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (43 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 130 km/h.
