On Friday, 16 May 2025, in the afternoon at 16:50, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 94.11), a Toyota Highlander Hybrid ran off the road. Two people were injured — the 39-year-old driver of the Toyota (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 29-year-old passenger of the Toyota (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 39-year-old driver of the Toyota (20 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
