On Tuesday, 24 June 2025, at night at 3:16, in Marijampolės municipality, Tursučių village, on Grybų street near No. 4, a Volkswagen Bora hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 45-year-old pedestrian. Four people were injured — a 11-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient), a 16-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient), a 14-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient) and a 11-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 18-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.68‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
