On Monday, 23 June 2025, in the evening at 17:48, in Širvintų district municipality, on the Maišiagala–Širvintos regional road (kilometre 17.10), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved a BMW 320 and a Mercedes-Benz Classe E. Four people were injured — the 20-year-old driver of the BMW (hospitalized), a 17-year-old passenger of the BMW (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt), the 26-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (hospitalized) and a 16-year-old passenger of the BMW (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 20-year-old driver of the BMW, who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He had no driving licence. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
