On Sunday, 28 September 2025, in the afternoon at around 15:00, in Molėtų district municipality, on the Raudondvaris–Giedraičiai–Molėtai national road (kilometre 46.12), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a BMW 530 XD registered in Latvia and a BMW. Six people were injured — the 19-year-old driver of the BMW 530 XD (severely injured, hospitalized), a 18-year-old passenger of the BMW 530 XD (severely injured, hospitalized), the 34-year-old driver of the BMW (treated as an outpatient), a 32-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient), a 3-year-old passenger of the BMW (severely injured, hospitalized) and a 4-year-old passenger of the BMW (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 19-year-old driver of the BMW 530 XD (2 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
