On Saturday, 11 October 2025, in the afternoon at 15:58, in Šilutės district municipality, Rudynų village, on the Kaunas–Jurbarkas–Šilutė–Klaipėda national road (kilometre 187.30), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Toyota Prius, a BMW 3ER Reihe and a Volkswagen Touran. Two people died — the 60-year-old driver of the Toyota and the 43-year-old driver of the BMW. Eight people were injured — a 4-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient), a 13-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient), a 9-year-old passenger of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient), a 8-year-old passenger of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient), a 8-year-old passenger of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient), a 17-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient), a 16-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient) and a 8-year-old passenger of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 60-year-old driver of the Toyota (20 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
