On Wednesday, 5 November 2025, in the evening at 19:44, in Rokiškio district municipality, Aleknų village, on the Juodupė–Aleknos–Aknystė regional road (kilometre 2.39), a Volvo V40 registered in Latvia rolled over. One person died — the 28-year-old driver of the Volvo (was not wearing a seatbelt). Eight people were injured — a 61-year-old passenger of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 20-year-old passenger of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 31-year-old passenger of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 20-year-old passenger of the Volvo (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 27-year-old passenger of the Volvo (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 21-year-old passenger of the Volvo (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 22-year-old passenger of the Volvo (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 23-year-old passenger of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Volvo (5 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
