On Saturday, 20 December 2025, in the afternoon at 12:40, in Utenos district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis main road (kilometre 136.70), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Passat and a Volvo XC60 registered in Latvia. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who violated overtaking rules. He was drunk (2.10‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
