On Friday, 18 January 2013, in the evening at 22:05, in Šilutės district municipality, Švėkšnos town, on Liepų a., at the junction with Gedminaičių 18 street, an Audi 80 hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 49-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 26-year-old driver of the Audi, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk, had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA).
