Unlicensed Mercedes-Benz driver and Mercedes-Benz crash on the Ąžuolų Būda–Kazlų Rūda road
On Thursday, 30 May 2013, in the evening at 19:55, in Kazlų Rūdos municipality, on the Ąžuolų Būda–Kazlų Rūda national road (kilometre 2), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz A190 and a Mercedes-Benz 250. One person died — the 18-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz 250. Two people were injured — the 37-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz A190 (hospitalized) and a 71-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz 250 (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 37-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz A190, who failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
