On Saturday, 31 August 2013, in the afternoon at 14:49, in Vilnius, on Žemoji street near No. 30, a Volkswagen Golf hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 54-year-old pedestrian (severely injured, hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He was drunk (1.99‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
