On Sunday, 11 May 2014, in the evening at 18:56, in Šakių district municipality, Nartų village, on the Šakiai–Slavikai regional road (kilometre 7.83), a BMW 316 hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 21-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the BMW (5 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.26‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
