On Wednesday, 9 July 2014, in the morning at 7:24, in Kretingos district municipality, on the Šiauliai–Palanga main road (kilometre 138.44), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved an Opel Astra and a Mitsubishi Carisma. Two people were injured — a 57-year-old passenger of the Mitsubishi (treated as an outpatient) and the 80-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the Opel, who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.38‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
