On Wednesday, 16 July 2014, in the morning at 7:18, in Šiauliai, on Plungės street, at the junction with Sedos street, a Volkswagen Golf hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 63-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who committed other traffic rule violations and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.16‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
