On Sunday, 31 August 2014, in the evening at around 19:00, in Kaunas, on Breslaujos street, at the junction with Prancūzų street, a Volkswagen Golf hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person was injured — a 29-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 34-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was twilight, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
