On Wednesday, 10 December 2014, in the afternoon at 16:50, in Kauno district municipality, Akademijos town, on the Kaunas–Zapyškis–Šakiai national road (kilometre 6.50), a Volkswagen Golf hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by a 58-year-old pedestrian, who was crossing the carriageway where prohibited and was walking at night without reflectors (light, hi-vis vest). He was drunk (2.80‰ blood alcohol). The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
