On Sunday, 4 January 2015, in the evening at around 19:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 66.95), a BMW 530 hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 51-year-old driver of the BMW (34 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
