On Saturday, 6 June 2015, at night at around 23:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Babriškės–Varėna–Eišiškės national road (kilometre 18.90), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Audi 80 and an Opel Astra. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the Audi, who failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (2.69‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA).
