On Thursday, 9 July 2015, in the afternoon at 15:13, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Kuršėnai–Mažeikiai national road (kilometre 6.58), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved a Toyota Previa registered in Norway and a Citroen Jumper. Six people were injured — the 37-year-old driver of the Toyota (hospitalized), a 38-year-old passenger of the Toyota (hospitalized), a 5-year-old passenger of the Toyota (hospitalized), the 57-year-old driver of the Citroen (hospitalized), a 5-year-old passenger of the Toyota (hospitalized) and a 57-year-old passenger of the Citroen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 37-year-old driver of the Toyota (10 years of driving experience), who violated overtaking rules and entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
