The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the Opel (1 year of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations, failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. She was drunk (1.74‰ blood alcohol). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
