On Thursday, 24 September 2015, in the evening at 17:29, in Vilniaus district municipality, on the Vilnius–Šumskas national road (kilometre 12.42), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf, a DAF FT XF105.410 and a Wielton NW-3. Three people died — the 42-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, a 48-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen and a 22-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen. The accident was caused by the 42-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (14 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. A 22-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen was drunk (0.44‰). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
