On Monday, 31 August 2015, in the morning at around 9:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 101), a Mercedes-Benz E 290 Turbodiesel hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 68-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (47 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry.
