On Wednesday, 21 October 2015, in the evening at 18:30, in Kauno district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zapyškis–Šakiai national road (kilometre 16.55), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf and a BMW 530 XI. One person died — the 63-year-old driver of the Volkswagen. Two people were injured — a 16-year-old passenger of the BMW (hospitalized) and the 21-year-old driver of the BMW (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 63-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (less than a year of driving experience), who violated overtaking rules. Both drivers were sober.
