On Monday, 5 February 2018, in the afternoon at 13:40, in Kauno district municipality, Gaižėnėlių village, on the Kaunas–Zapyškis–Šakiai national road (kilometre 16), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a BMW 318d, a Skoda Fabia, an Audi A3, a Renault Master and a Fiat Doblo. One person was injured — the 56-year-old driver of the Audi (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 25-year-old driver of the BMW (8 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was snowing, there was a blizzard, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
