On Friday, 11 December 2015, in the evening at 17:25, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Alytus–Simnas–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 5), a car hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 74-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized). The accident was caused by a 74-year-old pedestrian, who was crossing the carriageway where prohibited and was walking at night without reflectors (light, hi-vis vest). He was drunk (1.34‰ blood alcohol). The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, there was freezing rain, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
