On Friday, 1 January 2016, in the evening at around 21:00, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Daugai–Meškučiai–Meškasalis regional road (kilometre 20), a Volkswagen Golf ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who committed other traffic rule violations and failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry.
