On Friday, 22 January 2016, in the evening at 21:29, in Pasvalio district municipality, on the Panevėžys–Pasvalys–Ryga main road (kilometre 38.67), a Volkswagen Passat Variant registered in Latvia ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 30-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (12 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, there was fog, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
