On Monday, 1 February 2016, in the morning at 7:40, in Kaunas, on Žiemgalių street near No. 3A, a car hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people were injured — a 8-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient) and a 42-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 43-year-old driver of a car (25 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
