On Friday, 8 April 2016, in the evening at 22:40, in Klaipėdos district municipality, on the Klaipėda–Kretinga national road (kilometre 9.80), a Saab 9-3 hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by a 21-year-old pedestrian, who committed traffic rule violations that contributed to the accident, was crossing the carriageway where prohibited and was walking at night without reflectors (light, hi-vis vest). He was drunk (2.82‰ blood alcohol). The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
